Dr. Brown was originally drawn to obstetrics because women tend to take the best care of themselves when they are pregnant. This phenomenon spurred her interest in holistic and preventative medicine. Trying to encourage superior health at every stage of a woman’s life, Dr. Brown feels that many factors affect the health of her patients, including workload, diet, exercise and stress. We do a number of evaluations for the total woman. We don’t just look at the breast or the uterus separately. We evaluate the woman in her entirety, says Dr. Brown. There is no one program that fits everybody, so we address the needs individually; and we try to address the needs totally in context with the patients lifestyle.
As a woman, Dr. Brown feels that she is more responsive to women patients and compassionate about their problems and concerns. She understands motivations and habits that her patients adopt, yet stresses that heart disease kills more women than men and is the No. 1 killer of women in the U.S. Dr. Brown encourages patients to establish and start maintaining good habits, then the quality of their health is going to improve.
Dr. Brown is a member of the Houston OB/Gyn Society, Harris County Medical Society, Houston Medical Forum, National Medical Association, American Medical Association, American College for the Advancement of Medicine and American Association of Environmental Medicine. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.
In addition to being a mother of two, Dr. Brown is an ordained minister in American Baptist Churches, focusing on social justice issues. She devotes hours to encourage youth to excel, become involved in the world around them, and seek higher education. Dr. Brown believes that she can help save the environment by encouraging every person to appreciate and preserve the life God has given us.
Education: University of North Texas State, B.A.; University of Texas Southwestern, M.D.; Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, M.P.H.; M. Div. Southern Methodist University.
